Puppies
IBIZA Whippet litters are bred after very careful consideration. They are always aimed at developing the breed and only planned when we want a new puppy for ourselves.
Breeding plans are made after extensive study of pedigrees and sourcing of the best possible stud dogs. Beyond the pedigrees featured, we can email extended versions for those interested.
Litters are always based on the principal of only using the very best whippets available to us (not just blacks and other solid colours).
Being members of the Victorian Canine Council (VCA), we are obliged to have puppies “only for the purpose of improving the breed” and are bound to uphold its ‘Code of Ethics’.
We are currently members of The Hound Club of Victoria (in Melbourne), as well as both the Sighthound Club and The Whippet Club of New South Wales (in Sydney) and the South Australian Whippet Club (in Adelaide), and we try and support the clubs and their Specialty shows whenever possible.
As previous members of The Whippet Association of Victoria, we had provided fostering to needy Whippets in the past, both locally and even from other parts of Australia, and tried to support the club when possible.
My pups are only available to loving homes that are willing to uphold my high standards of care and welfare. You can read more about our expectations of new homes at - Puppy Policy. For those adequately prepared, genuinely looking for a pup that feel they can provide an excellent home, can complete our application at - Inquiries Form
I have only two litters planned for 2007 with limited availability, as I already have several confirmed bookings from qualified, approved potential owners. To avoid disappointment, interest should be expressed well ahead of time, as people have waited several months for one of our pups and future litters will be more infrequent.
All IBIZA pups are raised indoors, initially under a heat-lamp in the winter, in a clean whelping box located in the living room adjacent to the home office, where we can keep a close eye on them and their mum. At 5 weeks they progress to a wire playpen extending from the whelping box, among other dogs, a cat, TV/Radio and a healthy home environment.
After their 6 week vaccination, they are slowly taken on short car trips and introduced to the ‘world’ beyond their usual home. Initially in a secluded corner of the local park, pups are supervised while they explore and play. Being an integral part of the pup’s gradual but regular socialisation, it’s very important in raising a confident and outgoing whippet. This 6 to 10 week period is vital in their learning and “imprinting” their positive new experiences and is most important for developing their self confidence.
Pups sold as companion dogs or ‘Pets’ are intended as loving family members. These dogs are placed on the ‘Limited Register’ destined not to be shown or bred from. All pups are raised completely equally, regardless of whether they are ‘graded’ as pets or possible show pups.
New owners wishing to breed from their whippet in the future must complete a separate Contract of Outright Sale, to purchase a “Show” potential puppy on the Victorian Canine Association ‘Main Register’ and they must become members of their local Canine Control Council (or similar state body).
“Show” quality means that, at the time of sale, we believe that the pup displays the potential to be competitive in the show ring, but of course, no guarantees of this can be made. Pups change quite dramatically as they grow and variables such as feeding, environment (beyond genetic influences and temperament) can determine the way a dog develops. Breeders can never be absolutely sure of how a pup will turn out. We use our knowledge of the dog’s lineage, the whippet ‘Standard’ and our experience in watching pups grow, to determine which pups in the litter are of potential show and breeding quality (if any at all).
No breeder can truthfully guarantee you of a Champion as a young pup, let alone a “Best in Group” or “Best in Show” winner. If you were looking for a guaranteed show winner, it would be best to search for a maturer dog that has already been proven in the show ring. You’ll need to be prepared to pay a good deal more than the average price of a pup.
IBIZA puppies are fully vaccinated for their age, regularly wormed and are free of fleas and tics. As well as the Vaccination Certificate, each new owner receives a free 6 week Pet Insurance Policy and a ‘Puppy Pack’ with extensive pedigree reports, detailed feeding charts, general puppy care information with helpful instructions.
You can read more about this at New Puppy Care and Feeding Instructions
