Statue was a remarkable English dog who’s influence and legacy is now etched in whippet history, as he is behind some of the finest breeding in this country. Exhibited by Major Graham Bailey, he was owned by Mr Frank Pieterse of Statuesque kennels in Sydney. Statue is considered among one of the finest dogs to have ever been exported from England.
He has sired of over 40 champions and is the record holding winner of FOUR Specialty “Best In Shows”, as well as 14 ‘All-Breeds’ “Best In Shows”. He’s also the sire of several Sydney Royal Show - Hound Group finalists and winners, including the stunning BIS & Multi SBIS Aust Ch Statuesque Res Anibrow.
His other daughter - Aust Ch Martinique Papier Mache, was “Best Bitch, All-Breeds” at the Sydney Royal Show in 1980, under famous British ‘All-Rounder’ Mrs Catherine Sutton. She had also won the Whippet Club Specialty in Sydney, even doing the ‘Double Win’, with her sire at that Specialty.
Statue was also used by several other leading Sydney breeders at the time, including the Bellendene, Deerfoot, Kylebay and Dachlah kennels, all of which produced Champions throughout New South Wales.
